Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt will “never be free” of her grooming and gang rape ordeal

The repercussions could last her whole life...

Actress Lucy Fallon has opened up about her Corrie character’s disturbing grooming storyline, and admitted she doesn’t think Bethany Platt will ever get over it.

In fact, she insists that in a bid to keep the storyline real, the character won’t just forget about it as that wouldn’t reflect real life.

The 21-year-old actress was praised by viewers for her portrayal of Bethany as she was groomed by Nathan Curtis, before being sold to his gang for sex.

In the distressing storyline, teenager Bethany was gang raped before eventually finding the strength to escape.

Speaking to The Sun, Lucy said: “When we spoke to the NSPCC and Childline and Survivors of Sexual Exploitation, it was made clear to us that these things don’t just go away overnight.

“It’s something that will be with them forever, it’s such a huge thing that happens to people and obviously a massive thing that happened to Bethany. She will live with that for the rest of her life.”

Lucy also reveals that fans speak to her about the storyline regularly, and it has even given some victims the voice to speak to their families.

She is nominated for Best Actress and Best Dramatic Performance at this year’s British Soap Awards.

More recently, Bethany has helped Craig through his OCD diagnosis and will soon realise that she’d like to be more than just  good friends with him.
