Coronation Street SPOILER: Vigil held for murdered Luke as Phelan starts to squirm

Is this the beginning of the end for the notorious murderer?

The bombshell that Luke Britton has been brutally murdered hits Coronation Street tonight – but as residents hold a candlelit vigil in his memory, little do they know his killer is amongst them.

Viewers watched in horror as Luke became Pat Phelan’s latest victim in Friday night’s action-packed episode after the mechanic got closer to the truth behind Andy’s disappearance.

But after running Luke off the road in his car, shooting him in the chest through the windscreen, before then shooting the car’s petrol tank and watching it go up in flames,  killer Phelan then returned to the Street as if nothing had happened.

But when Police tell a devastated Alya that Luke’s body has been found in his burnt out car, her immediate thought is that the racist Parker brothers are responsible.

Numerous residents saw Luke being targeted by the Parkers over Christmas after he stood them up following their unforgivable behaviour towards Alya.

Luke punched the men and warned them off – but they retaliated by targeting the garage.

So when Luke’s death is revealed, his friends naturally think that this is a racist attack and Alya shares her theory with the police.

Little does she know, Luke’s killer is right on their doorstep.

As a public vigil is held for Luke, a brazen Phelan can be seen lurking amongst the gathered crowd.

He definitely isn’t a man to feel remorse for what he’s done, so is he there to encourage the theory that the Parkers are responsible? Could that be his get out of jail free card?

The Nazirs are fuming about the apparent racial attack and they address the press gathered, lead by an angry Zeedan.

But while Phelan looks on with glee – it soon becomes apparent that there’s a fly in his ointment in the form of Seb.

Seb remembers the gun that Phelan showed him and is shocked when he discovers Luke’s car was found at the abandoned mill.

As he starts to put two and two together, Seb can’t keep the shocking realisation to himself and goes to confess all to Eileen.

She’s left stunned when he tells her that Phelan killed Luke – but will she believe him?

With Seb realising exactly what Phelan is capable of, will he be the one to expose him, or is he just lining himself up to be Pat’s next victim?

See these scenes tonight on ITV1 and 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
