Actor Connor McIntyre reveals all...

| Updated:

Actor Connor McIntyre has revealed the REAL reason why his evil Corrie character Pat Phelan survived the epic showdown at the lighthouse.

The 57-year-old Liverpool-born soap star, who has played killer Pat since 2013, has explained that some fans wouldn’t have been happy with this ending.

Instead, he suggests, they want Pat to really suffer!

Well, we can’t disagree.

Coronation Street fans know that the psychokiller is due back in Weatherfield any day now, ready to wreak vengeance on his former friends and neighbours.

Now, in quotes printed in the Daily Express, Connor explains why it’s about time Pat gets what he deserves – and why he didn’t die after wife Eileen pushed him into the sea.

He told the newspaper: “I think the fans really enjoyed the lighthouse [scene] and I think they enjoyed it as well because maybe 50 per cent thought, ‘That’s him [dead]’.

“But when he returned on the Monday I think they went, ‘Great’. Because we didn’t think that was enough of a comeuppance for him.”

Connor went on to tease that fans of the murderous character will finally get to see Pat’s victims get justice.

He said: “We want him to get his real comeuppance.”

Keeping tight-lipped about Pat’s intended victims, he teased: “Everybody is in danger, everybody on the Street!

“Imagine Pat Phelan loose on the Street with nothing to lose.

“So there’ll be people involved who really you wouldn’t expect to be involved. I think it might be [a surprise]. Yeah. I hope so!”

Connor previously said that Pat’s final scenes will be “a great pay off for the fans”.

“The soap gods decree that all the bad guys must get their comeuppance in some way, so I think the fans are in for a hell of a ride,” he told Digital Spy.

We. Literally. Can. Not. Wait.

Next week, poor Eileen is left terrified when she answers her mobile and is greeted with the voice of her supposed-to-be-dead husband.

Scenes will show Gary go searching for Pat in Wales with army friend Joe…

Prepare to witness the mother of all showdowns!
