Peter Barlow’s temptation as Carla Connor returns to Coronation Street

Things could be about to get very complicated

| Updated:

It could be a bleak new year for Toyah Battersby if rumours that her partner, Peter Barlow, is going to cheat are true.

With his ex-wife Carla Connor making her return to the cobbles, temptation is going to be very close by – and very hard for Peter to resist.

But while it’s been reported that Carla’s going to bed Peter’s brother, Daniel Osbourne, instead of Peter himself, actor Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter, has revealed Carla is the love of his life.

“Peter’s trying to pretend she’s not,” he told Metro.co.uk . “But how long he can keep that up for, I don’t know.”

He added: “Poor Toyah! I’m guessing that at some point something will happen between Carla and Peter because I’m guessing that it’s what the viewers will want.”

Toyah is currently desperately trying to become a mum, but a betrayal like this could shatter all her baby dreams as well as her happy ever after.

Can Peter stay loyal to Toyah or will the temptation of Carla be just too much?

The thing is, love definitely isn’t what’s on Peter’s mind this Christmas when he discovers the truth about Billy Mayhew being responsible for Peter’s sister Susan’s death.

Susan was killed in a car crash, and viewers, and Billy, now know he was driving the other car.

When Billy stops to break up a fight between two strangers, he’s knocked over and a pendant that he has in his pocket pierces his leg and he starts bleeding heavily.

Peter’s with him and tries to stop the flow of blood as well as calling an ambulance, but Billy is convinced his time is up and that’s when he makes his big confession.

He tells Peter he deserves death because of what he did to Susan, and a stunned Peter can’t believe what he’s hearing.

“Peter takes his hand off the wound and watches him start to die, but then comes to his senses and puts his hand back on again,” Chris told Digital Spy.

“It’s just shock for Peter. He can’t take in what he’s told him. Then later he starts to formulate some sort of mad, misguided revenge plan.”

And what a revenge plan it is! Peter makes Billy drink two bottles of vodka and then he locks him in the boot of his car!

“It’s very dark,” said Chris. “It’s probably the darkest part of the character.”

Could it be this destructive behaviour that leads Peter back to Carla’s arms?
