Coronation Street SPOILER: Martin back to save the Platts!

And lord knows they need it

| Updated:

Coronation Street revealed last year that they would be tackling the topic of male rape as David Platt will be attacked by newcomer Josh.

Now it has been reported that a former legend of the cobbles will return to support David after his ordeal.

His father, Martin Platt, played by Sean Wilson will be back for an “extended period” for the first time in nearly 13 years.

The 52-year-old actor, who played womanising Martin for 20 years, left the soap in 2005 and has since had a complete career change to become a cheese-maker.

Sean told the Mirror last summer that he would return to acting if the right offer came along.

Now it seems he has been convinced to make his Corrie comeback thanks to the upcoming hard-hitting storyline, which Corrie scriptwriters will consult with rape charities on to ensure it’s handled with the accuracy and sensitivity.

A show source told The Sun that Sean will be back in Weatherfield for “a good few weeks.”

They said: “Martin has been mentioned a lot on the show since he left but it has involved other characters, mostly David, going to see him off-screen.

“But with David’s rape storyline, the writers thought it would be a good time to have him back properly.

“It’s not a permanent arrangement but fans will get to see Sean back as Martin for a good few weeks.”

Sean left the soap in 2005, reportedly after clashing with writers over a storyline where Martin had a fling with an under-age girl.

After decades working as an actor, he decided to focus of another of his passions in life – food.

He learned how to cook by working in Michelin-starred restaurants, and was mentored by a Lancashire cheesemaker.

In 2009, he launched the Saddleworth Cheese Company, which is “committed to making handmade artisan cheese” according to their website.

The products have won food awards and been stocked in Asda.

We bet his co-stars will be hoping he brings some along for them to sample when he makes his comeback to the cobbles!

Coronation Street continues tomorrow at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
