He later made a one-off appearance on a spin-off DVD adventure, Coronation Street: A Knight’s Tale, in 2010.

“So we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

He added: “I have very good relations with both ITV and Coronation Street. Ultimately it’s down to them.”

Curly was one of the soap’s most beloved characters with his wedding to ex Raquel watched by more than 23 million people.

Happy Valley actress Sarah Lancashire played the ditzy Raquel who left Curly less than a year after their wedding so she could become a beautician in Kuala Lumpur.

However the pair were featured in the show’s first ever two-hander episode as Raquel returned to see the show into the new Millennium to reveal she had had his baby.

The dramatic episode saw Curly discover he had a daughter named Alice and discover that Raquel wanted a divorce.
