Coronation Street fans in uproar after show’s Twitter account reveals major spoiler

Unsuspecting fans were confused and annoyed

Coronation Street’s Twitter account regularly posts preview pictures on a Sunday night hinting at what’s coming up next week.

But today, many fans thought they’d gone too far and revealed too much with their post.

Featuring a picture of a distraught Anna Windass being held back by prison guards, the caption read: “A devastated Sarah finally accepts the news of Gary’s death.”

Viewers were horrified that the official account had dropped such a big spoiler, especially as Gary is still well and truly alive on screen and there’s no hint that he’s died, so to say Sarah “finally” accepts the news is a bit strange.

Many thought they’d missed an episode, while others were just plain fuming that they knew something so major was coming seven days before it happens on screen.

“Spoilers hurt,” said one fan, while another added: “I’m so annoyed they’ve just ruined it for us.”

Rumours had been circulating for a while that Gary was set to be a goner before Christmas, but nothing had been confirmed as yet.

The preview pictures on the official ITV Corrie site say that Sarah’s brother, David Platt, takes the call and is told a British national has been killed and a St Christopher was found – all pointing to the fact it’s Gary.

But has he really just been killed off screen? He’s a long-serving character and we just don’t think they’d actually get rid of him in such a quick and callous fashion.

Especially not because Sarah still doesn’t know Nicola Rubenstein is carrying Gary’s child. Surely we’ve not been cheated out of a showdown between Sarah and Gary over that?

But if he is dead, it’s going to cause a lot of heartache on the Street for a lot of people.

Can Sarah get through this? Will Anna be able to cope being locked up and losing her boy? And how will Nicola get on now she has to raise a child all on her own?
