Coronation Street bosses reportedly ‘begged’ Sean Wilson to return as Martin Platt

Sean is returning to the soap for a guest role in March

| Updated:

It has been reported that Coronation Street bosses were so desperate for Sean Wilson to reprise his role as Martin Platt that they ‘begged’ him.

The Daily Star claim that actor Sean fell out with Corrie bosses after he was axed from the soap in 2005 and he’d vowed never to work on the show again.

The fall out between Sean and the show reportedly came after he refused to film a storyline where his character, Martin, would have an affair with an underage girl.

The newspaper claims that Sean said at the time: “I will act again – but never with Coronation Street.

“They were very rude to me when I left.

“I would rather walk down any other street, even if I had a nail in my shoe.”

A source apparently told the publication: “They must have bent over backwards to convince him.

“Most stars leave quietly no matter how embittered they might feel about their exits. But Sean didn’t.”

Entertainment Daily! contacted Coronation Street but it declined to comment on these claims.

But despite these latest headlines, Coronation Street have announced that Sean will be appearing back on the show for a guest appearance as part of David Platt’s sexual assault storyline.

The show posted the announcement on their Instagram page: “We are very excited to confirm that Sean Wilson will be returning as Martin Platt for a short time in March – welcome back Sean!”

It remains unclear exactly how Martin returns to the cobbles, but with David being his son, perhaps it could be that he arrives to offer his support following the harrowing ordeal?

Since his time on Corrie, Sean went on to appear in numerous top shoes including Silent Witness, Casualty, Dalziel and Pascoe, and The Royal.

The actor then trained to be a chef, cooking in several Michelin-starred restaurants, and has even set up his own cheese-making company.

Sean’s return to the soap will no doubt delight long-time fans of the show despite the less than happy storyline surrounding his comeback.
