Coronation Street boss reveals Peter Barlow will take centre stage this Christmas

Could this have anything to do with Carla's return?

Corrie boss Kate Oates has promised an “intense” Christmas on the cobbles with resident reformed bad boy and ladies’ man, Peter Barlow, stealing the show.

Could this have anything to do with the return of a certain Carla Connor, we wonder?

Speaking to Sun Online at the Inside Soap Awards earlier this week, Kate revealed: “We’ve got a bit of a Peter Barlow extravaganza – that will be exciting.

“We’ve got a certain Connor returning and I believe you can guess who I’m talking about.”

Carla (Alison King) is expected back on screen at Christmas after eighteen months away from the cobbles and no one will be more surprised to see her than ex husband, Peter (Chris Gascoyne.)

We strongly suspect there might be some unfinished business between these two who broke up back in 2014, following the revelation that Peter had been cheating on Carla with Tina McIntyre.

Kate previously spoke about Carla’s return saying: “Ever since I got here, it’s been rumoured that Carla’s coming back. But it was never true.

“Even the latest indications of it. Ali has only just signed her contract and she’ll be back around Christmas.”

Alison was recently spotted filming her first scenes back in Weatherfield, where she was spotted meeting with her half-brother, Aidan.

Aidan is currently in a bit of a mess after being set up by Eva Price in an epic revenge plot for cheating on her. Will Carla be returning to save his skin?

Kate also hinted at the forthcoming storyline where vicar Billy Mayhew will reveal he was responsible for the car accident that killed Adam Barlow’s mum.

She said: “It’s going to be a really intense Christmas where the ghosts of Billy’s past come back to haunt him and some nice intense stuff for the Barlows so yeah it’s going to be exciting.”

We reported earlier that Adam (Sam Robertson) is thought to turn to drugs and alcohol when he discovers the truth surrounding his mum’s death.

Doesn’t sound like there will be much in the way of festive spirit in Weatherfield this year.
