Coronation Street boss dropped huge hint about the end of Phelan in last night’s ep

Will he be taking an extended 'holiday'?

Coronation Street’s outgoing boss, Kieran Roberts, made a Tarantino-esque cameo in last night’s episode as a builder wishing twisted builder Pat Phelan a happy holiday.

Now the blink-and-you’d-miss it guest slot has got everyone wondering if it was a secret hint that Phelan himself could soon be on his way out of Weatherfield.

Kieran has been overseeing Corrie for the past 11 years, but has worked at ITV for 34, and he is the big boss that producers Kate Oates and her predecessor Stuart Blackburn.

So, in the words of Ron Burgundy, he’s a pretty big deal.

It’s no secret that Phelan – who is responsible for three Corrie deaths and possibly has some more to carry out – will be leaving the Street at some point.

Both Corrie spokespeople and Connor McIntyre who plays evil Phelan have assured fans that justice will be done and his reign of terror will come to a satisfying end.

Corrie have kept their cards very close to their chest on exactly how Phelan will depart however.

But now fans are wondering if his comeuppance could be sooner than we think, reckoning Kieran’s appearance and interaction with the notorious baddie means killing off Phelan was one of his last jobs on the show.

Is he hinting that Pat could be taking an extended ‘holiday’ of his own in the not too distant future?

Interesting theory…

Kieran has spoken out about leaving the soap he’s worked on for over a decade.

He said: “This has been a huge and very difficult decision and it’s one I have been thinking about for more than a year.

“When the move to six episodes was announced I knew I should stay to help make that happen.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky to have worked on so many wonderful programmes and with so many brilliant colleagues during my time at ITV.

“Coronation Street is a special place and it’s been a huge privilege working on such an amazing programme with the greatest team in television.”

Kate Oates will be staying on as producer so the drama will still be coming thick and fast.
