Chizzy Akudolu assures concerned Loose Women fans that she’s okay

She spoke about her addiction struggles on Thursday's show

Holby City and Strictly Come Dancing’s Chizzy Akudolu has assured fans she is okay after an emotional appearance on Loose Women.

The 44-year-old spoke openly on Thursday’s show about her struggles with food and shopping addictions, which left fans questioning if the actress was okay.

Some viewers called it “uncomfortable viewing” and suggested Chizzy didn’t look happy being quizzed so much about such sensitive subjects on-air.

In a statement posted to the Loose Women Twitter account, she said: “I wanted to thank you all for your kind messages of support and let you know that I’m okay.

“I know that many of you out there are going through similar addiction struggles which is why I wanted to speak out about food issues with the ladies on the show today.

“I feel totally supported by Loose Women both on and off screen and this is something I’m going to continue to work with the team behind the scenes.

“Sometimes you have to admit that you have a problem before you can begin to recover and today I feel that I’ve taken my first steps.”

Chizzy added: “Just wanna say a massive thanks to everyone who has gotten in touch with messages of support. Those struggling too, let’s get this sorted. We deserve happiness.”

On Thursday’s episode of Loose Women, Chizzy had explained how she’s an emotional eater, and she’s tried dieting over the years but it’s never worked for her.

She said: “I really feel I need a total reset up there. At one point I went to get a gastric band but that would have just stopped me eating a quantity of food, it would’t stop me eating the wrong food. I feel I have lost control now.

“I started going to the gym but that won’t work unless I tackle the food. I eat when I’m happy, sad, good news, bad news, I turn to food.

“I feel so addicted to the struggle. I love dieting because I can control something for a minute, then the weight goes back on as the dieting doesn’t work.”

She also spoke about previously struggling with a shopping addiction, which left her in debt.
