Celebrity Big Brother viewers accuse housemate of ‘homophobic’ comments

They were furious over his remarks

Celebrity Big Brother viewers have accused ex-footballer John Barnes of making “homophobic” comments during a conversation with Shane Jenek.

During Saturday night’s show John was confronted by Shane over some of the comments he’s made about sexuality.

But the 54-year-old sparked backlash after claiming “straight guys always assume homosexual men want to have sex with them”.

Shane, whose drag alter-ego is Courtney Act, asked John about the comments he had previously made about his views on sexuality.

John said: “I know it shouldn’t be that way, but men are comfortable just being in a room with a woman.”

And he added that they don’t feel the same way about being alone with a gay man.

“They assume he’s definitely going to want to have sex with me,” he continued. “And that’s why men aren’t comfortable with gay men. They think ‘I wonder if he’s thinking about me without my clothes on.'”

Shane responded: “With straight men, there seems to be something more fragile about their heterosexuality where by they’re threatened by the idea that another man could find them attractive.”

“That’s the thing,” John said. “Because of the stigmatisation concerning the act itself… they’re thinking you’re gonna make a move on me, you’re going to touch me.

“It’s this uncomfortable feeling that he’s going to pounce on me.”

John claimed his views on sexuality are a result of the way he was brought up.
