Celebrity Big Brother reportedly set to be AXED later this year

With the normal Big Brother show also facing the chop

| Updated:

It has been claimed that Channel 5 are set to pull the plug on Celebrity Big Brother, and the normal civilian show, after 18 years.

The Daily Star have reported that channel bosses have decided the end is in sight for the cult TV show because of plummeting ratings.

The newspaper has claimed that there has been a lost interest in the show due to rival successful shows such as Love Island – meaning Big Brother apparently just isn’t ‘worth the price tag’ for the channel.

Show insiders reportedly told the publication: “There have been conversations between the execs about not renewing the contract for both Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother.

“It would be the end of an era but they feel the time is right.

“There is still time for the bosses at Channel 5 to change their mind, but it’s not looking likely.”

But if Channel five drop the show – that isn’t to say that another channel might pick it up in the future.

The show famously started its life on Channel 4 before being moved to Channel 5 in 2011.

It has also been reported that the current series of Celebrity Big Brother bought in the lowest-ever ratings for a launch night, with just 2.1 million viewers tuning in.

Despite recent claims, Big Brother host Emma Willis revealed earlier this week that they are casting for the next civilian version of the show.

But do the claims made by The Daily Star mean the next series will be the last?

The current series of Celebrity Big Brother is set to come to an end on Friday 2nd February, meaning the show will run for a total of 32 days – just like the last two New Year instalments of the show is 2017 and 2016

Entertainment Daily! contacted the Celebrity Big Brother press team at Channel 5 and they told us: “Channel 5 are committed to a further series of Big Brother and of Celebrity Big Brother later this year.”
