Casualty is planning a dramatic stunt episode, which will leave the lives of some of our favourite characters in jeopardy.

The long-running BBC medical drama has revealed that a huge explosion will take place later this year – and they’ve already started recording the scenes.

The cast and crew have been busy filming the dramatic scenes in Yate, Bristol, over the last few weeks.

The cliffhanger scenes will feature a huge motorway crash – and will even include a petrol tanker turning on its side which is destined to explode.

With the BBC keeping notoriously tight-lipped about exactly what happens in the forthcoming episode, we’re going to have to wait and see which characters will be caught up in the drama…

And if they all survive.

The explosion episode is due to air in August.

The medical soap has also revealed a devastating storyline for Alicia Munroe, who is raped by her colleague Eddie McAllister later this month.

Of the plot, Alicia says: “I’ve felt a distinct sense of responsibility for this storyline from the moment Lucy Raffety, our Series Producer, informed me we were going to explore it here at Casualty.

“I think now, more than ever, it is so important that we use our platform to highlight such an issue.”

Speaking about how the series will end, show boss Lucy Raffety has said: “The end of the series will be the culmination of a very big, very current, very topical and quite controversial story that will start in spring next year.

“The series finale will see the culmination of this story, and will probably divide the audience – it certainly divides our department and it certainly divides opinions in the cast.

“It will start in spring and build up to the end of the series and it will be very different in feel.”

Already this series, we’ve seen Casualty sweetheart Robyn left a widow on her wedding day when her husband Glen died of a brain tumour.
