Britain’s Got Talent judges make a dig at Strictly over same-sex couples

Are they right to criticise?

It’s a debate that has rumbled on for quite some time now, and now the question of whether same-sex couples should dance on Strictly Come Dancing has reached Britain’s Got Talent.

Spaniards David De Menes and Javier Padilla perform a salsa routine for the judges in tonight’s episode of the talent show, sparking a few barbed comments towards Strictly.

Viewers will see that David Walliams loves the routine, and tells the talented pair of dancers that his approval has nothing to do with any kind of comedy value.

“It was beautiful and shows there’s nothing funny about two men dancing together,” he says after David and Javier have finished their dance.

“I don’t know why the BBC doesn’t have two men dancing together because it’s fantastic,” he continues, referring to the BBC’s hugely successful celebrity talent show, Strictly Come Dancing.

David’s fellow judge Amanda Holden joins his calls for same sex Strictly couples. She says: Strictly should do it. I love the moves and how you toss each other around on stage.”

David, who is not known for his shy and retiring nature, is desperate to find out whether the two men were also partners away from the stage, but fans will see him being  overruled by his boss, Simon Cowell.

“I don’t think that’s any of your business!” the show’s supremo states, cutting David’s question off quickly.

However, Javier does confirm that David currently has a girlfriend, although he is single.

Of course, David can’t resist playing up to that comment and he makes a joke of hitting his buzzer to kick the pair off the stage as soon as he hears the news that the dancer is spoken for!

The debate over same sex couples on Strictly has been an annual talking point for several series of the dance contest now, and, most recently, Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood spoke out in favour of the move.

There has been no decision either way from the BBC at this point, but there’s still a while to go until Strictly returns, so watch this space!
