Anne Hegerty reveals real reason she did I’m A Celebrity

She left the jungle on Wednesday night

Anne Hegerty has admitted she only did I’m A Celebrity for the “money and fame”.

The Chase star, 60, was voted out of the jungle on Wednesday night after 18 days Down Under.

Anne won over the nation after opening up about her Asperger syndrome diagnosis and she’s managed to raise awareness to the condition since being in the jungle, with many people branding her “inspirational”.

Speaking to the Metro, she said: “A lot of people seem to think I went on in order to raise awareness about autism. I’m afraid my intentions weren’t nearly so elevated – I did it for money and fame!”

At least she’s honest!

Anne immediately gained support from viewers as she entered the jungle on November 18.

The star had a tough time at the start of the show after breaking down in tears on the first day before quitting a Bushtucker trial a couple of days later after it all became too much for her.

However, after settling into jungle life, Anne admitted she was starting to enjoy herself and thanked her campmates for supporting her.

After leaving the I’m A Celebrity camp, Anne opened up about how she struggled to adapt to jungle life.

During an appearance on Thursday’s This Morning, Anne said: “I was technically expecting everything that happened, but I hadn’t really properly imagined it to myself and when we went into Snake Rock I just got more and more depressed.

“I thought, ‘Oh no, no, no, no what was I thinking. I can’t possibly handle this.’

“Not just the hunger, just the sheer discomfort and how difficult and hard everything was… how hard it was just to keep yourself clean. And I was kind of in shock for several days.”

Anne insisted it was her campmates that kept her going.

She revealed: “When I got into the main camp, everyone was just so lovely.

“John Barrowman came running up with his arms open, and Nick [Knowles] gave me a hug and then his pillow – which I’d been sleeping on ever since and it’s filthy with wood smoke and everything.”
