Talking about the upcoming series Rosemary told hosts Alex Jones and Matt Baker: “[Giorgio Locatelli and I] learnt an awful lot. We had a journey ourselves.

“We had to look up some of the stuff, it was hysterical.”

She added: “In fact we had to ask Nadiya quite a few things of the Indian lot because we didn’t know some of the spices.”

But viewers watching from home weren’t impressed with her comments.

One tweeted: “Rosemary Shrager… you are a disgrace ‘The Indian lot’ #TheOneShow.”

“Watching #theoneshow and waiting 4 rosemary shrager to make racist faux pas. “The Indian lot………”. #oneshow. Age cannot be an excuse,” another ranted.

“the Indian lot”????? #TheOneShow,” one wrote.

A fourth said: “Did she just say ‘the Indian lot’? #TheOneShow.”

But some viewers were quick to defend Rosemary for her remarks.

One said: “If you think “the Indian lot” is racist, then you seriously need to re-evaluate your sad pathetic life. Go find a safe space. #TheOneShow.”

Another agreed: “She was talking about the different spices hence “the Indian lot” FGS #theoneshow.”

Speaking about her new job, Nadiya said: “Family and food have always gone hand in hand and I’m looking forward to getting to know the recipes and traditions of the different families taking part.

“Having been through a food competition as an amateur cook myself, I know exactly how tough it can get and so I’ll be there for them, alongside Zoe, as the pressure really builds!”

Zoe said: “I’m not the world’s best cook as my kids will vouch but I’m learning so much from these families and from Nadiya! New recipes, top tips and some definite dos and don’ts, I can’t wait to share this joyous celebration of family and cooking with everybody.”
