Emmerdale fans devastated by sudden death

This is not what we came for

Emmerdale viewers were left heartbroken last night as a long-standing cast member and fan favourite went to the big farm in the sky.

Yes, the Dingles’ much-loved dog, Alfie, keeled over and lay limp on the ground during an argument between Zak and Lisa about the future of Wishing Well Cottage.

Lisa felt the need to get some air during the heated debate, and Zak followed her outside saying: “Don’t cry, I didn’t want you to cry. Look, I am fighting for the family.”

Lisa hit back with: “It’s not so long since you walked out on all of us. Where were your family values then?”

Just as she delivered the final blow to Zac, asking why he’d fight for a house, but not for her, Lisa spotted the pooch collapsed on the grass.

As Lisa headed over to the dog in horror, fans could not cope.

“Can’t believe I’m getting a dog death SL this close to Christmas. This is not what I asked Santa for #Emmedale,” wrote one distraught viewer.

A second added: “I’m blooming balling at the dog collapsing on #Emmerdale, why do animals do this to me?”

While another tweeted: “First you kill off Finn, and now the Dingle dog?! Why you trying to kill me #Emmerdale?”

But there might be another twist in the tail (geddit, tail? Nevermind) as fans have also predicted that Alfie’s demise means there will be a doggy vacancy chez Dingle.

And it just so happens that Jai has a little pup that needs a loving home.

So all’s well that ends well, right?

Well, apart from for Alfie, of course. RIP.
