Emmerdale actor James Moore shocked by NTA nomination

He's up for best newcomer

James Moore was left in “complete shock” after his National Television Awards nomination.

The Emmerdale star is pleasantly surprised after he was given a nod in the longlist for the Best Newcomer category ahead of next year’s ceremony, admitting he was “over the moon” at the recognition after joining the soap as Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) son Ryan Stocks in May.

He tweeted: “What is happening right now. Just seen this. Can’t believe it. Still in shock. Over the moon. Thank you all so much for your support. This is the strangest tweet I’ve ever written but I’m just in complete shock right now  THANK YOU (sic)”

James was inundated with congratulations by fans for the nod, but will face stiff competition from fellow soap newcomers, EastEnders’ Ricky Champ (Stuart Highway), Hollyoaks actor Aedan Duckworth (Oliver Morgan), Doctors’ Daniel Kerr (James Coulter), Casualty’s Neet Mohan (Dr. Rashid ‘Rash’ Masum), and Coronation Street actress Alexander Mardell (Emma Brooker).

James’ on-screen mum Emma also has a chance of success at the ceremony because she is up for Best Serial Drama Performance alongside 25 others, including her on-screen daughter Charley Webb (Debbie Dingle) and fellow Dales stars Ryan Hawley (Robert Sugden), Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle), Lucy Pargeter (Chas Dingle), and Dominic Brunt (Paddy Kirk).

Emmerdale will take on regular rivals Coronation Street, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks in the Serial Drama category, and James’ mum could well be voting for the soap after becoming a “convert” of the programme since he joined the cast.

He recently tweeted: “My mum is now an @emmerdale convert…she used to watch Eastenders years ago but went off it in recent years, and since I’ve been in the show she started watching my episodes but I haven’t been on in weeks and she’s ringing me up all the time telling me what Charity’s done now (sic)”

Highlights from James’ time in the soap include when he hit Charity’s rapist (and his biological father) DI Bails with a wooden pole and when he first met Ross Barton (played by Michael Parr) in The Woolpack.
