EastEnders: Max and Rainie’s fake marriage risks exposure

It's obviously in the blood!

EastEnders viewers know that Max Branning married Rainie Cross for one reason and one reason only – to get custody of his granddaughter Abi.

Their relationship is a sham to convince welfare officers that Max would make a good guardian for the baby – rather than Abi’s maternal great-grandmother Cora.

But did Rainie get the memo?

In a surprising twist of events, the BBC soap have hinted that Rainie could be falling for the dodgy car salesman.

The dramatic summer preview, released earlier this week, shows Rainie plant a smacker on Max’s lips – and, to be fair, he doesn’t look like he’s protesting!

Well, they would make a good couple, no?

They deserve each other!

Their fake marriage threatens to be exposed again next week as they are under pressure to look like a convincing husband and wife.

If anybody found out that Max is PAYING Rainie to play happy families, he’d never get custody of his grandchild.

Deciding to play the part, Rainie hosts a dinner party with her brother-in-law Jack and his girlfriend Mel Owen.

However, Rainie goes all out on the role as dutiful wife, leaving Max embarrassed and edgy.

When Max warns Rainie to calm down, Jack and Mel sense the pair need some private time…

And when they head upstairs, Rainie plants a passionate kiss on Max’s lips!

Could this be the beginning of something beautiful (doubtful) or another twist and turn on the rollercoaster ride that is Max’s life?

Meanwhile, Rainie and Donna have an Albert Square showdown, leaving Max furious that his wife is jeopardising their custody chances with her volatile behaviour.

The pair have another furious row, but is there a different type of passion bubbling away under the surface?

Well, they do saw there’s a fine line between love and hate!
