It’s the soft launch of Ian’s new business venture with Masood Ahmed and he’s determined to prove to Mel that he’s a successful businessman and total husband material.

Undeterred by the fact Mel is seeing Jack Branning, he annoys Kathy when he hires Mel’s troublesome teenage son Hunter to help out with the launch in a bid to get her attention.

Ian, Masood and Kathy are all left feeling disappointed by the less than impressive response to the soft launch of the new restaurant but Ian soon forgets everything when Mel arrives.

The pair end up having a surprising heart to heart about Ian’s dead daughter, Lucy, and he’s feeling hopeful about their future.

But Ian is left feeling annoyed when Jack arrives and steals Mel’s attention away from him.

As Kathy tries to console her son who’s clearly upset, she’s stunned when he reveals he’s more determined than ever to win Mel over.

Mel and Ian were originally married back in 1999 in one of soap’s shortest ever marriages.

Mel had actually fallen out of love with Ian and – sensing he was about to lose her – he lied to her that Lucy who was then a toddler had cancer.

Furious Mel discovered he’d been lying to her and left him shortly after they’d tied the knot, leaving Ian heartbroken.

Mel went on to marry local gangster Steve Owen who was later killed in a car crash involving Phil Mitchell and baby Louise.

Actress Tamzin Outhwaite who plays the feisty blonde revealed earlier this year that she’d love her character to taunt her lying ex now she’s back in Walford.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com Tamzin said: “Hopefully she’ll play around with him a lot,” the actress said. “I think he deserves to be played around with because, although everyone says ‘oh Mel treated Ian really badly’, he was horrific to her.

“I think she’s still got revenge there.”
