Jean Slater mugged in EastEnders, battles Ian Beale for choir leader role

Jean discovers she has a surprising knight in shining armour

Jean Slater finds herself brutally attacked in EastEnders next week – but that’s not the end of the drama heading her way.

Jean’s left stunned when she is mugged by two strangers riding through the Square on the back of a moped… but thankfully Ian Beale is on hand to chase the thieves away.

Ian and Jean’s friendship has gone from strength-to-strength over the last few weeks, and with their choir rehearsals becoming more intense, they’ve certainly been spending a lot of time together.

But despite coming to Jean’s aid in her moment of need, Ian takes over at choir and nominates himself as the group leader, despite the fact everyone knows Jean is the one for the job.

Unsurprisingly Ian struggles in his new role and, with the choir in chaos, he calls on Jean for help, finally admitting that she is the one they need at the helm if they have any chance of winning the singing competition.

But it soon becomes apparent that Jean has taken on more than she realised when she discovers the choir hasn’t even been entered into the Christmas competition after Morag missed the entry deadline.

With the singing group up in arms, it’s up to Jean to calm everyone down, and thankfully they eventually agree to have a carol concert anyway.

But with everything in chaos, distracted Jean accidentally throws her medication away in the bin – leaving her behaviour becoming more erratic by the hour.

The rest of the Slaters soon realise all is not well with Jean, but they have no idea that the pressure of keeping Alfie and Hayley’s baby secret is about to push the new choir leader over the edge.

Worried about her mum, Stacey confides in Max, telling him that she doesn’t understand what is going on with Jean.

After a heart-to-heart Stacey feels a bit better about things – until she gets home and makes a horrifying discovery. But what has she found?

Will Jean be okay? Or has the stress of keeping a secret so huge hidden from her family finally taken its toll?

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
