Dot Cotton faces moral dilemma in EastEnders’ assisted death storyline

It's a controversial issue...

| Updated:

Dot Cotton is known for being a woman with an ingrained moral compass.

She always tries to do the right thing and she’ll do anything for a friend.

Both of which could lead to an uncomfortable situation for the Walford favourite in a future storyline.

This week, Dot was left devastated when she received bad news in the post.

On Tuesday (13 November), while sitting at the kitchen table with Tina Carter, Dot looked visibly upset when she opened a letter from her old pal Dr Legg.

The pair recently reunited but Dot was shaken when her friend explained he’s got cancer.

She was concerned when he failed to turn up for a remembrance service at the church, so was relieved when she saw she’d received a note from him.

However, her relief soon turned to horror when she read its contents and realised that he wants her to help him die.

Viewers know that Dot has never recovered from the death of her best friend Ethel, who she assisted to end her own life.

Lifelong pals, Ethel asked Dot to help her die after she was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour.

Dot helped her, but the memory has haunted her ever since.

Will Dot agree to help another old friend in need at the end of his life?

Or will she refuse to go through the pain again? Or, has she actually got the wrong end of the stick entirely.

Some fans made light of the storyline, joking that Dot was becoming a “grim reaper” type character, but others felt saddened that more sorrow is ahead for the beloved character.
