Joyce Murray passes away in EastEnders, Ted and Judith face drama

There will be tears tonight

| Updated:

Oh, dear, it seems Death has come knocking in Albert Square yet again, after a resident apparently passed away in their sleep during last night’s episode.

Ted Murray arrived home to a note from wife Joyce saying she’d headed to bed for an early night, after an emotional day that saw the couple arguing (again).

He popped his head round the bedroom door and smiled warmly at his sleeping – so he thought – wife.

But what he didn’t see (but viewers did) was her hand, hanging limply over the side of the bed.

Is she dead? Well, sorry to break it to you if you haven’t been following our spoilers, but yes… yes, she is.

EastEnders has already released pictures from next week’s episodes that show Ted and Joyce’s daughter, Judith, arriving in Walford, following the devastating discovery tonight.

It’s immediately clear that relations between father and daughter are not good – indeed, Joyce accused him of being an ‘absent’ parent in last night’s episode.

And his grieving daughter gets a touch of the green eyes when she sees Ted lavishing attention on Bernadette that she and her brother never received.

Joyce and Ted Murray arrived in Walford a little under a year ago.

Of the sad storyline, an EastEnders spokesperson said: “Joyce’s time on the Square has been brief, and after her death Ted will come out of his shell and viewers will see a bit more of him.

“The arrival of Judith will then bring him more drama as it’s clear that their relationship is far from perfect. “It remains to be seen whether Ted can get through his loss and work together with Judith to say goodbye to Joyce in the right way.”
