Sophie Webster’s new love interest stirs controversy on Coronation Street

Will there be trouble in Weatherfield when Sophie's forbidden new romance gets out?

The Corrie rumour mill has been sent into overdrive as it’s been reported that Sophie Webster is set to get a new controversial love interest this summer.

According to The Sun, Sophie will be seduced by a cougar lawyer in a new storyline that focuses on her mum, Sally, being accused of fraud.

Cupid apparently strikes when Sally accidentally hands over council money to a criminal and finds herself caught up in a fraud case.

As she faces losing her position as mayor, she gets in touch with an old friend who just happens to be a lawyer.

The newspaper then claims that Sally’s old friend takes a shine to Sophie, and tries to seduce her.

Something that Sally is definitely not going to be happy about.

Before now Sophie has been unlucky in love, not only did her romance with Kate Connor fail to ever get going thanks to Rana Nazir, but Maddie Heath was killed in an explosion and Sian Powers left Sophie on their wedding day.

It has been suggested that Sophie and her new romance are set to have a hot fling, with a source apparently telling the newspaper: “Sophie hasn’t had much luck with romance on the cobbles but it appears this time it’s finally going in the right direction for her.

“She allows herself to start falling in love with the lawyer but Sally is furious when her friend tells her she has feelings for her daughter.

“She’s livid about the age gap and brands her friend a cradle snatcher.”

Sophie has had a tough time recently, not only has she lost her friend Aidan after he took his own life, but she was devastated when his grieving dad Johnny accuses her of causing his death.

If the rumours are true, could this new romance for Sophie break her love life curse and see her happy for once?

Entertainment Daily! contacted Coronation Street for an official line but they declined to comment.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
