Nicola Thorp lets slip disappointing news about her return to Coronation Street

We wanted her back for good!

Coronation Street favourite Nicola Thorp has revealed details about her character’s return to Weatherfield in the New Year.

She told OK! Online what Corrie fans can expect from Nicola Rubinstein’s comeback.

Sadly it’s not the best news, as her return isn’t permanent.

“I’m just back for five episodes but it’s one of those things, Nicola has got so many ties to the street,” she said.

“I think Nicola will always be strong minded and independent and I think that’s what made her a little bit different on the Street.

“I think it’ll be the same old Nicola, which is good, she’s been through a lot, but Zak is her focus and she just wants to be a good mum.”

Weatherfield is set to be full of drama as 2019 begins, as it will be in the grip of a new super-villain next year, who will kill off a Corrie favourite.

In scenes to air in March, the Underworld knicker factory collapses in what appears to be an accident.

Someone will die as a result, bringing devastation to the Street.

But there is worse to come as residents discover it was no accident.

New boss Iain McLeod spoke of the disaster at a press event.

The Mirror reports: “We’re knocking the factory down in a colossal stunt.

“It will at first appear to be an accident and then be revealed to be some sort of criminal enterprise that caused it all to come down.

“And somebody will be dying in that collapse. It’s a massive whodunnit which turns people against each other, and fractures the community.

“The week itself is dramatic and the death is heartbreaking and very well written – there won’t be a dry eye in the house.”

“It’s is a whodunnit without a murder at the centre – instead it’s gross negligence manslaughter.

“It’ll be every bit as intriguing. We’ll start with the crime and then gradually reveal the motives afterwards.

Sean Tully, Izzy Armstrong, Sinead Barlow, Beth Sutherland, Kirk Sutherland and Gina Seddon are among the likely victims.

The tragedy will have a devastating effect on factory owner Carla Connor, who will be treated like a ‘pariah’ by locals.
