New Corrie producer Iain MacLeod’s first episodes revealed

Actress Kym Marsh spills the beans

We have been waiting with baited breath ever since it was revealed that former Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod would be taking over the reins at Coronation Street, and now actress Kym Marsh reveals when we can expect the new producer’s work on screen.

Corrie star Kym revealed to Digital Spy: “It’s always good (to get a new boss) and it keeps things fresh. That’s the way it goes, every few years we get a new producer and it’s like that with every show.

“It keeps things vibrant and each producer has their own take and their own spin, which we will see.”

But it sounds like we might have to wait a little bit longer before we see Iain’s first episodes on screen.

With the huge stunt episodes to hit our screens next week, fans will be on the edge of their seats as Ryan, Michelle and Ali all fight too escape evil Ronan’s revenge vendetta, as well as seeing two weddings and a shock death.

But these scenes are still the work of former Coronation Street producer Kate Oates, who left the role earlier this year.

Kym admitted: “Iain’s stories don’t come into play until December.”

Kate has now moved on to pastures new at the BBC where she will be working on EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City.

But after signing a new contract in June, it seems Kym has managed to escape the infamous ‘producer cull’ where people joke that a new boss comes in and gets rid of certain characters to make the show their own.

Kym confessed: “It’s nice to have a new boss, especially because I haven’t been sacked… yet!

“Everyone always does that thing when you get a new boss where they say ‘Are you really nervous about being sacked?” and I go, ‘No, not until you just said it!’ I’m only kidding!”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
