Corrie star Jennie McAlpine is pregnant with her second child and will soon be heading off for her maternity leave.
And it’s now emerged how her character Fiz will exit Weatherfield during this period, with newcomer Evelyn to blame!
The old battleaxe thought to be Tyrone’s grandma, first appeared on the Street last week, and has already made her mark.

Evelyn is moving in with the young couple, and wastes no time in giving Fiz a hard time.
Maureen Lipman, who plays Evelyn, has told Metro.co.uk: “Fiz doesn’t stand a chance. No one was ever going to be good enough for Tyrone – not that she thinks he is good enough, either, but she has a grudging liking for this boy and she thinks that the woman he is with is boring.
“She sets out to drive her away, just by being ungracious and critical and generally driving a wedge between them which is a horrible thing to do but there are people like that.”
Maureen, who was made a CBE in 1999, added: “She is a genuine battleaxe without a man to battle, except maybe picking fights with Dev in the corner shop and putting Tyrone in his place regularly. A battleaxe is something that the British public seem to like.
“I hope she gets an asbo, I’d love to see her tagged and doing community work with such bad grace. She is heading for a comeuppance!”
Meanwhile, Jennie appeared on Lorraine last week and teased Evelyn’s part in Fiz’s departure.
“With the brilliant Maureen [Lipman]. She’s formidable. She’s going to take Fiz’s place while I’m gone!” she explained.
“She’s very involved with it, our Evelyn. She’s not impressed on our family set-up, let’s put it that way. She’s not impressed with Fiz as a wife-mother, so it doesn’t go well for the next few weeks.”
She also revealed the amusing ways the Corrie crew are hiding her bump.

The I’m A Celebrity star told the host: “I’m going to tell you how we hid it. First with a mug like this, then we went on to a handbag. But, do you know what, last week they hid it with a Ford Fiesta.
“Honestly, they said can we just move this car a little bit back… I asked if it was my bump and they said yes, they could see it and the car was going to help hide it! I kid you not.”
