She said: “There are some really good stories coming up for Shona, and obviously I can’t tell you much about them.

“But it’s been nice to have some light relief since the rape storyline, so I’m really looking forward to getting back into the nitty gritty drama.”

“It’s nice to be able to do both,” the star added.

Viewers know that Shona arrived on the Street in 2016 as a runaway fleeing Nathan Curtis, who later went on to abuse Bethany Platt.

She was later revealed to be the mother of Clayton Hibbs – the man who murdered David’s wife Kylie.

In the interview, Julia went on to say: “I’d like to see Shona go off the rails again.

“From what she came in as I’ve been allowed to explore so many different colours to her personality. I’d be excited to get a bit bad again.”

The news comes as actress Julia is said to have signed to stay on the ITV soap for another year.

According to The Sun, the soap star has signed on the dotted line to remain on the cobbles for at least another 12 months.

An insider told the newspaper: “Shona’s become one of the street’s most beloved characters and Julia’s one of the show’s biggest talents so it was a no brainer to keep her.”

Jack P Shepherd, Lucy Fallon and Tina O’Brien have all been offered new deals too.
