Coronation Street SPOILER: Abi puts Sally in hospital

Sally gets a new cellmate in the shape of Abi

The trial of Corrie’s Sally Metcalfe begins next week, but Sal soon finds she needs to buy some time. New cellmate Abi Franklin decides she can help and puts a plan into action.

Sally is due to stand trial for defrauding the council, but she’s ever hopeful her lawyer, Paula, can prove her innocence.

As the day dawns for her to appear in court, things aren’t looking good when it turns out the judge on the case is the one Sophie insulted. Sal’s then left devastated when neither husband Tim nor sister Gina show up.

They’ve been arrested after Tim was caught drink-driving, but eventually arrive in the nick of time just as proceedings are about to begin.

Duncan is the first to take to the stand and he insists he’s the innocent victim in all of this and all he did was fall in love with Sally before she coerced him into defrauding the council.

Sally is distraught listening to his lies and struggles to keep a lid on her emotions.

As Duncan lies they spent the night together on her birthday in a hotel room, Paula later pushes Sal to remember what she actually did on her big day.

It’s Kevin to the rescue as he remembers Sally was visiting Jack that night in hospital.

Needing the evidence to prove it, Paula and Sophie head off to get the CCTV footage, but it looks like it’s going to take a while to locate.

Knowing they need to buy some time, Sophie devises a plan to get her mum to pretend to be ill so they’ll have to adjourn the case. Sally’s uneasy and doesn’t know what to do.

When she gets back to her cell, she’s shocked to discover Abi is her new cellmate.

Pleased to see a familiar face, Sal opens up to Abi about her troubles and explains how Sophie’s pressuring her to get the case adjourned. But moral Sal can’t bring herself to lie or make herself ill.

Queen of manipulation and lies, Abi quickly cooks up a plan.

As everyone arrives in court the next day, they’re shocked to hear Sally’s in hospital. What has Abi done to her? Has she beaten her up? And wouldn’t that get Abi in even more trouble with the courts herself?

Paula’s horrified when Sophie admits she told her mum to pretend to be ill, and Gina is shocked when she realises how easily Sally has lied to get herself out a fix.

With Gina meeting Duncan again and beginning to believe his porky pies, has this latest twist turned her against her sister?

And is Sally actually OK? For all they know she’s properly hurt or ill and it’s not just part of Sophie’s scam!

Will it buy her the time she needs for the evidence that will clear her name to surface?

It’s not been looking good for Sal up to this point, but can she get out of jail in time for Christmas?

But if she is free, what will she be going home to? With sister Gina moving in on Tim, will Sally have any family left?
