Coronation Street’s Pat Phelan to kill again in new storyline

The serial killer is going to claim one more victim

Coronation Street’s most infamous serial killer Pat Phelan is going to claim another victim.

The dastardly builder might have met his maker earlier this year when Anna Windass stabbed him to call a halt to his murderous reign of terror, but he’s still got more killings to do on the cobbles.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has told how Phelan will be at the centre of a new whodunnit as part of a major new storyline.

Speaking to press at a recent event, soap boss Iain revealed how Underworld will collapse as a brand new arch villain makes themselves known on the cobbles.

But while the new villain, who is familiar to viewers, will be to blame for a lot of misfortune coming to Weatherfield the factory’s dramatic roof collapse will hark back to Phelan.

Iain said: “The factory collapse cleverly builds on a storyline from about a year ago when Phelan worked on the roof.

“The origins are there already. This story feels right and we can reference back.”

Viewers know how Adam Barlow arranged for the factory to be looted, including its roof stripped, as part of his revenge plan for the Connors for stealing his share of the business.

When the late Aidan Connor finally got the business back on its feet, he paid Pat Phelan to rebuild the roof, but that will prove a costly mistake.

Teasing details of the plot of the high profile storyline, Iain added: “It will at first appear to be an accident, but will then be revealed to be a mystery and it’ll have been some kind of criminal enterprise that causes it all to fall down.

“Somebody will be dying in said collapse. I’m not going to tell you who that is, or who pulls the factory roof down! But the roof is going to fall in.

“It plays out over four or five months.

“The resolution of a whodunit is so fundamental to the enjoyment of a viewer, so we want to keep that under wraps.”

Phelan was finally killed earlier this year after his evil murder spree was exposed when he returned to the cobbles.

But to kill from beyond the grave is a trick not even Richard Hillman could pull off.
