Coronation Street’s Tracy Barlow has NOT contracted HIV

Fans were concerned after she touched Seb's blood

Following Wednesday night’s episode of Corrie, fans have been speculating that Tracy McDonald  may have contracted HIV.

Viewers saw Seb Franklin trash Tracy McDonald’s flower shop after he found out that it was Tracy who tampered with Michelle Connor’s car and not Abi.

Tracy didn’t tell the truth about the incident, resulting in Abi losing her job and falling off the wagon.

Seb, who is HIV positive, grazed his hand as he smashed the shop, leaving a blood smear on the broom he used.

However he was caught in the act by his mother Abi who took the broom off him and took the blame for the vandalism.

Fans noticed there was blood smeared on the broom and were worried Tracy could become infected after she touched it.

However, this absolutely cannot happen.

Kat Smithson, Director of Policy and Campaigns at National AIDS Trust explained to Metro.co.uk: “HIV would absolutely not be passed on in this scenario.

“HIV is a fragile virus that does not survive well outside the body. Blood stains and smears like this are not an HIV risk”

Kat went on to state: “Additionally as we understand it Seb’s character is on treatment for his HIV. What fans may not know is that, aside from keeping him alive and well, sticking to treatment will also mean he is totally non-infectious.”

Tracy went on to say that she didn’t want to press charges. However the decision was not in her hands and Abi was arrested.

In coming weeks, we will see Abi sharing a cell with Sally Metcalfe who has been wrongly imprisoned for fraud. She will be roped into helping Sally to delay her trial.
