Coronation Street’s Carla and Peter reunite with a kiss at Underworld

Making the most of grief isn't a very pleasant seduction technique

Weatherfield looks to have a new power couple – even if one half of that much-loved pairing seems to currently have more power over the other.

Coronation Street fans went bananas last night as exes Carla Connor and Peter Barlow shared a passionate night-time kiss in Underworld, their new venture as business partners.

But among the many viewers delighted to see the former lovers reunite there were concerns Peter had manipulated Carla’s grief for dead brother Aidan to get inside her knicker factory and seduce her.

After a frantic hunt for investors to back her desire to buy back Underworld from Alya Nazir at a knockdown price, Carla reluctantly accepted Peter’s offer to become a sleeping partner in the business after initially knocking him back.

“I’d sell my soul to the devil at this point,” she told Michelle Connor after a fruitless and increasingly desperate search through all her contacts in a position to front up the cash.

And while she may not have gone that far, Peter certainly looked to want an immediate and personal return on his investment as the pair checked in on the factory after the sale was swiftly completed and Alya handed over the keys.

As Carla made an emotional return to ‘her family’s’ building, Peter pressed to find out why she changed her mind about him and his money.

Encouraging her not to hide her emotions and “cover with me” as she spoke about her sense of duty towards Aidan, Peter then pulled Carla in for a comforting embrace as the tears flooded from her eyes.

“I thought I couldn’t cry any more,” she said, wiping her away another tear.

Holding her head in his hand, Peter pushed: “If you need to cry you need to cry.”

“Says a man who’s never worn eyeliner,” she replied.

“What must I look like?”

Stretching the boundaries of their now professional relationship, Peter answered: “Beautiful.”

He continued: “You were the best thing that ever happened to me.

“I know I messed it up and I know you can never love me again.

“But will you let me help you? That’s all I want.”

And apparently, Carla wanted some help with a smooch – and was indeed prepared to let the man who cheated on her on their wedding day before immediately embarking on an affair with Tina McIntyre assist with that.

Fans went absolutely wild on social media.

But many viewers were less optimistic about a potential future for ‘Carter’ and had plenty of reservations about how Peter took advantage of Carla’s grief, highlighting it as proof of the ‘toxicity’ of their relationship.

This is all just a very, very bad idea for both Carla and Peter, isn’t it? Let us know what you think by leaving us a comment on our Facebook page @EntertainmentDailyFix!
