Coronation Street’s Bev Callard announces new role

Fans are terrified that this could be the start of a departure from soap

Coronation Street fans have reportedly been left terrified that all their favourite characters could be leaving the soap as Beverley Callard reveals she has landed a new role.

The cobbles legend, who is better known to soap fans as Liz McDonald, revealed a new acting job in The Rocky Horror Show.

Most Corrie viewers were thrilled for the actress, telling her how brilliant they thought she would be in the role of Narrator in the production.

But Daily Star has reported that some fans are worried this might spark a more long-term departure for Beverley.

The Rocky Horror Show will run for three weeks in Manchester, with Strictly Come Dancing professional Joanne Clifton starring as Janet, and Ben Adams in the role of Brad.

With such a short Manchester stint, we won’t be without our beloved Liz for long, but Daily Star reported that Beverley’s announcement has left fans worried.

The actress is one of many Corrie stars has recently announced they’re pursuing other business ventures.

One Corrie fan wrote on Twitter: “I hope she comes back,” while another agreed: “When they start doing other jobs it’s usually the first sign they’re off for good.”

One more viewer simply added: “Nooooo Liz, don’t go!”

The feeling that a mass exodus might be on the cards comes after Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster, recently tweeted about her new business venture

The actress has launched a new website called Oh So B, which will be selling stationery.

Helen Flanagan, who is better known as Corrie’s Rosie Webster, also revealed that her plans to return to the soap might be put on hold as she hopes to have more children.

As well as Helen currently being on maternity leave from the soap, so is Jennie McAlpine, who plays Fiz Stape.

She gave birth to her new baby daughter just last week, revealing she has got a very ‘Corrie’ name –  Hilda!

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
