This Morning viewers’ hearts melt for bearded hunk who saved four people’s lives

He's been dubbed the 'humble hero'

This Morning viewers’ hearts were melting today after bearded hunk Gareth Clark talked about how he saved four strangers’ lives in the space of two years.

Gareth, who used to be in the army and is now a bouncer, saved four people’s lives on different occasions and was very humble when people hailed him a hero. Within the space of two years he managed to stop a suicidal woman from jumping to her death, pulled two drowning people from a river, and revived a heart attack victim.

When asked if he considered himself a superhero, Gareth said he didn’t and he came across extremely modest and a little shy. No wonder the viewers seemed to fall in love with him!

The first incident that happened was in 2014 when Gareth was approached by a man in a petrol station who said he was having a heart attack. Gareth performed CPR on the man and stayed with him until the ambulance showed up.

The next time he saved someone’s life was when he witnessed a police officer trying to help a suicidal girl. He was with his wife Natalie at the time, he explained: “The traffic had stopped but the police were on scene, so I said to Natalie ‘do you think I should get out and help this police officer?’ because I just thought I wouldn’t want to be on my own in that situation.

“There was a girl, Natasha, she was obviously at the lowest point of her life and she was on the bridge so I just went up to the police officer and said ‘would you like a hand?’ and he said ‘yes, if she goes which I thinks she’s going to, just try and catch something’. You could clearly see she was going to go at any time.”

This Morning presenter Sarah Greene said he seems to always be “in the right place at the right time.” In true humble hero style Gareth said: “I’m happy that I can be there for these people.” Aw!

At this point of the interview Natasha herself and another person Gareth had saved, Matthew, came to sit on the sofa with him to talk about their side of the story.

Gareth encountered his third life-saving situation when he was walking through his local town late at night, walked past a river and saw a woman drowning. He got in and pulled her out of the river, saving her life.

But just six days ago he saved Matthew’s life after he had fallen into the same river, leaving him with bumps and bruises. Thanks to Gareth that’s all Matthew ended up with as it could have been much worse, as host Rylan Clark-Neal pointed out.

When Rylan asked Natasha if there is anything she would like to say to Gareth, she emotionally said: “I would like to thank him. Words can’t describe how much I want to thank him ‘cos he saved my life, didn’t he.”

When Sarah asked Gareth if he’s going to get some public recognition for this, he said it didn’t matter and that he was just happy to be given the chance to appear on today’s show, as he glanced around the room and said: “This’ll do eh.”

Derbyshire police are said to be looking into how they can formally recognise Gareth’s amazing efforts in helping his community. Just as the interview was coming to a close, Gareth’s wife Natalie and their two children appeared on set.

Natalie said she was “really really proud” of her hubby and This Morning then presented her two young children with clothes for them to wear, with the words “my daddy’s a hero” on them.

Viewers were impressed two, with one Tweeting: “10:42 and I’m crying watching humble #hero Gareth on #ThisMorning Heartwarming interview from @Rylan and @RealSarahGreene.”

“What an amazing man #ThisMorning #hero,” said another, while a third added: “Gareth on #ThisMorning can be my hero any day what a guy!”
