In his new autobiography, titled ZAYN, he said: “When I look back at images of myself from around November 2014, I can see how ill I was.

“Something I’ve never talked about in public before, but which I have come to terms with since leaving the band, is that I was suffering from an eating disorder.

“It wasn’t as though I had any concerns about my weight or anything like that, I’d just go for days – sometimes two or three days straight – without eating anything at all.

“It got quite serious, although at the time I didn’t recognise it for what it was.”

The Pillowtalk singer uploaded a message to his Instagram account last night talking about his book and how despite his hard times, he is healthy and well now.

He said: “As you guys know I am releasing my book tomorrow.

“This book is my diary of a period of time that I would like to share with you all.

“I hope that there are things in the book that contextualize some of the moments and memories we have all shared together.

“There are things I address in the book that are very personal to me, things I have never told anyone, things I still find hard to talk about.

“It’s a part of a journey that I am still on.

“The good news is today, I am inspired, I am healthy and I am grateful.

“Enjoy.”
