Celebrity Big Brother tops Ofcom’s most-complained about TV show list for 2018

She vanished after TV fans turned against her...

Celebrity Big Brother has just been announced as THE most-complained about TV programme of 2018, according to Ofcom.

The media watchdog has revealed that the majority of complaints about the C5 reality show related to the allegations of physical assault against Ryan Thomas.

And, in the centre of the storm, was Roxanne Pallett…

Why did the nation turn against Roxanne?

Viewers saw former Emmerdale actress Roxanne falsely accuse Ryan of ‘punching her’ – prompting a whooping 27,602 complaints.

In scenes which shocked TV fans to the core, Roxanne took offence when Ryan threw a fake boxing jab at his housemate.

She then accused him of “intentionally” trying to hurt her, and refused to sleep in the same room as him.

Viewers quickly turned against Roxanne, and even several very public apologies didn’t help her when she eventually came out.

She was also fired from her radio job.

What happened after Roxanne came out of the Celebrity Big Brother house?

After leaving the house of her own accord, Roxanne claimed she had got the situation “massively wrong”.

During her exit interview with CBB host Emma Willis, 35-year-old Roxanne said she felt like “the most hated woman in Britain” and added: “I’m human. I made a massive, massive, horrible mistake.”

She appeared on the Jeremy Vine show to beg forgiveness, deleted all her social media accounts and vanished from the public eye.

But where did she go? And will she ever come back?

How did Roxanne react to the public backlash?

While Ryan went on to win the show, Roxanne made the decision to leave showbusiness.

As many of her former work colleagues and Emmerdale co-stars sided with Ryan and spoke out against Roxanne’s behaviour, she quit all her upcoming commitments, including her part of Cinderella in a pantomime.

Chesterfield Theatres, where she was due to play Cinderella, released a statement saying: “Roxanne Pallet has today decided to step down from her upcoming role as Cinderella in Chesterfield, in order to take some time out and reflect on recent events.

“We wish Roxanne the best and will be announcing her replacement in due course.”

Where does that leave her career?

In a perhaps bizarre twist of fate, Roxanne subsequently appeared on Celebrity Coach Trip and Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls.

However, both were pre-recorded.

Roxanne quit Celebrity Island after she suffered a panic attack in the middle of the night, when smoke from the campfire reminded her of a house blaze which almost killed her mum and left her with lung damage.

Roxanne has not been seen on TV since her interview with Jeremy Vine on Monday 3 September and Emma Willis on Tuesday 4 September.

Has there been any sign of Roxanne since?

Several days before her final interviews, Roxanne deleted her Instagram and Twitter accounts after being inundated with messages from Ryan fans and having her Wikipedia page vandalised.

She has been under the radar since then.

Despite papparazi trying to track her down and get a glimpse of her, Roxanne has remained in hiding.

Nobody knows whether she has quit acting and showbusiness forever.

What about her personal life?

Roxanne’s fiancé Lee Walton stuck by her during the scandal and also completely deleted his social media accounts following the backlash.

Lee, 40, a steel worker from Yorkshire, got together with Roxanne after they met at a local pub in his hometown.

They got engaged within one week, but it’s unclear whether they weathered the CBB storm and stayed together.

Has Ryan Thomas moved on?

He has refused to dwell on the debacle and has made it clear he’s forgiven Roxanne and wants to move on.

This week, he revealed that he declined counselling after Roxanne’s accusations.

Speaking to The Mirror, he praised Channel 5’s handling of the situation and said his family helped him through the difficult period.

During his exit interview with Emma, the Coronation Street actor said: “If she wants forgiveness and it makes her feel better then I would rather give her that, because I think she’s been punished enough by the public and people around her.”

And that generosity of spirit, ED! readers, is exactly why he won…
