Toddler Rushed To Hospital After Yankee Stadium Tragedy

Bystanders were stunned by the horrifying incident.

Major League Baseball and its loyal fan base are heartbroken after a toddler found herself in harm's way during a Wednesday game at Yankee Stadium.

The young girl was struck in the face by a foul ball — and the scene was horrific.

Todd Frazier, third baseman for the New York Yankees, hit a line-drive foul that resulted in the injury.

In an interview with the New York Times, one bystander told the newspaper, "That was a screaming line drive. I just wanted to cry for this little kid. There was so much blood."

The game was a face-off between the Yankees and Minnesota Twins.

Players from both teams were devastated by the sight of the child being carried away on a stretcher. She was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Columbia Hospital.

The incident occurred during the fifth inning. The extent of the girl's injuries has yet to be revealed and the family's name is being kept private at this time.

One anonymous Yankee Stadium paramedic did tell the Times that it appeared as though she was hit in the nose and the right eye.

During a news conference following the game, Yankees Manager Joe Girardi told reporters the team had received word the child is doing okay.

"Obviously, you could see the concern on everyone in the ballpark — the players, the umpires and the fans, and it's disturbing when it happens, and it's hard for a player when it happens," he said.

Todd would like to see more netting put up to protect fans. The player remains horrified by the events that unfolded.

"It was terrible. I was shaken up,” he told a group of reporters. "I don't know what happened. I just hope she's all right. It's tough to watch. It's tough to be a part of, honestly."
