This Morning viewers angry after show drops a spoiler about Emma Barton’s Emmerdale exit

But surely we already knew?

Emmerdale actress Gillian Kearney, who plays crazed killer Emma on the soap, appeared on This Morning earlier today, ahead of her Emmerdale exit tonight.

Not that everybody knew it was coming.

This Morning host Ruth Langsford, 54, explained to viewers that although they could confirm Gillian’s departure from the soap, all other details of her character’s exit remained a closely guarded secret.

Last night’s Emmerdale saw Finn die after he was accidentally shot by his mum Emma when she fired a shotgun into the air.

The clip from tonight’s episode showed Gillian’s character Emma on the edge of a bridge appearing to contemplate taking her own life, when her dead son Finn appears next to her.

After the clip, host Ruth Langsford said: “We can say – we don’t do spoilers here – but we can say, you are leaving.

Despite the fact this was announced weeks ago, some viewers clearly hadn’t heard the news and vented their frustration to with perceived spoiler on Twitter.

“‘We’re not doing spoilers, but you’re leaving.’ Ffs, #ThisMorning,” said one.

“‘You’re leaving but we won’t say what happens to the character’ well it’s pretty obvious isn’t it #thismorning,” added another.

While a third said: “Cheers for the spoiler.”

Others were just sad to see Gillian go, with one saying: “Gillian is so lovely. Gonna miss her on Emmerdale.”

Another added: “Can’t wait for tonight’s Emmerdale.”

Speaking to Eamonn and Ruth about her final scene doing the stunts, Gillian revealed that she had been petrified standing on the edge of the viaduct.

“It was scary and I’m very afraid of heights but I was wearing a harness so it was ok,” she said.

The 45-year-old actress, who is also known for her role as Debbie McGrath (as in Damon and Debbie) many moons ago in Brookside, also revealed that she and Joe Gill, who played her son Finn had both officially left the show a few weeks ago.

“We had a party and had a lovely time. I know I’ll just stay in touch with all of those people. I made some great friends.”

After playing Emma on the show for the last three years, the star said about moving forward, “It’s quite exciting because you do think ‘Oh wow’ because I knew what I was doing next week and in six months time, but it’s exciting too to feel like you’re going to do something fresh.”
