Susanna Reid opens up about 10-year battle with tinnitus

She developed the condition after her son Finn's birth

Susanna Reid has opened up about battling tinnitus, which she was diagnosed with over 10 years ago.

Taking to Twitter, the Good Morning Britain presenter said she’d had a “tough” day with the condition, which causes ringing, humming or buzzing in the ear.

Susanna, 47, revealed she’s had the condition since giving birth to her son Finn, now 13.

She tweeted on Monday: “My tinnitus is so loud right now. The noise you used to hear when TV programming finished at the end of the day? That. In my head.”

Her co-star Piers Morgan was quick to respond, joking: “That’s Piersitis – you’re missing me shouting in your ear.”

The official Twitter page for British Tinnitus replied to her tweet, saying: “Susanna, if we can help please do get in touch.

“You can DM if you prefer and we will get back to you with some help and advice. Take care.”

After being flooded with supportive messages from her fans, Susanna said she can usually deal with her condition however, Monday was just a “bad tinnitus day”.

In reply to British Tinnitus’ tweet, Susanna wrote on Tuesday: “Thank you lovely people. Yesterday was a bad tinnitus day, but I can deal with it mostly.

“If anyone out there needs support please contact @BritishTinnitus who have lots of good advice.”

This isn’t the first time Susanna has opened up about living with tinnitus.

Back in 2015, Susanna spoke about the hearing condition during an episode of Good Morning Britain.

She said: “When I first started hearing it, which was probably about ten years ago, I became quite distressed that I would never hear silence again.”

The presenter previously admitted in an interview that she misses silence.

When asked about what “treasured item you lost and wish you could have back again,” Susanna told the Daily Mail: “Silence.

“I’ve had tinnitus since Finn’s birth, which probably resulted from a difficult labour.”

There is no current cure for tinnitus. Other celebrities who battle the condition are Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Louis Tomlinson and Boy George.
