Susanna Reid finally opens up on split from long-term partner – and dating again

She could give fellow celebs a lesson on how to handle a split maturely...

It’s been three years since Susanna Reid split from her long-term partner.

The Good Morning Britain co-host, 46, parted ways with Dominic Cotton, 50, in 2014 after a 16-year relationship and three young sons.

We’ve seen many high-profile splits descend into mud-slinging matches or bitter court face-offs, but refreshingly, Susanna and Dominic have remained good friends despite their separation.

In a new interview with Prima magazine, Susanna said she split from Dominic following her time on Strictly Come Dancing, as she was switching jobs from BBC to ITV.

Playing coy on the exact reasons, she simply said: “My then partner and I split during all the upheavals.”

Whatever happened behind closed doors, the pair were firmly agreed on one thing: that their children’s welfare came first.

“We’ve all seen break-ups where kids are collateral damage and we desperately wanted to avoid that,” said Susanna.

Explaining that she and Dominic mutually agreed to be “emotionally generous” to each other, she added: “We steered clear of bitterness, resentment and jealousy.

“Dominic’s a good man and together we’ve managed to co-parent and remain good friends.”

While Dominic has been back on the dating scene since the split, Susanna has chosen to remain single – for now.

She once said she had no interest in dating again because she was too busy with her work and children, but speaking to Prima, she suggested she wouldn’t say no if the right man came along.

“I’m happily single at the moment and though I wouldn’t be averse to meeting someone new, I’m also aware that you can’t play fast and loose with your children,” she said.

“Mine still need me a lot and so I’m not sure I’d want all the distractions that come with a new relationship.”

Susanna is mum to sons Sam, 14, Finn, 12, and Jack, 11.

Following their split, Susanna and Dominic continued to live together in the same house, hoping to make the separation as easy as possible for their family.

She previously told The Sun: “What I’m trying to do is have as good a ‘divorce’ as possible. But I do understand that for some people looking in, it might seem unusual.

“We live separately but together and happily in the same house. Obviously, we’ve been through a bit since splitting up, because a separation is always going to be sad. But it’s nice for the children that they know mum and dad are still there.”

More celebrities should really follow Susanna and Dom’s lead…
