If you believe the rumours that have been circulating, then Strictly’s Gemma Atkinson and Alexandra Burke have been at loggerheads over Gorka Marquez – but Gemma has finally broken her silence over the claims.
With an apparently budding romance between flourishing between Gemma and Gorka, Alex is said to be fuming that her professional dance partner’s attention isn’t focused on getting her through to the show’s finals.
But, when asked about the backstage fighting, former Emmerdale star Gemma just laughed…
“I think people love to hear that contestants or pros are falling out because they love a little bit of drama. But unfortunately there isn’t any,” she told The Mirror.
“There’s no animosity between anyone. We all message each other in the week on WhatsApp and send each other funny pictures and videos.”

But that’s not a no to the romance rumours, is it?
“We’re all so focused on our dances that we haven’t got time to fall out. Gorka’s priority on the show is getting Alexandra through week by week, the same thing Aljaz has.
“My focus is pleasing Aljaz, it’s the same for every couple.”
It’s no secret the Strictly schedule is a demanding one. Not only does Gemma spend up to eight hours a day rehearsing with her 27 year old Slovenian dance partner, she also gets up at 4.30am to do her Key 103 radio show in Manchester.
But while Gemma and Gorka train more than 200 miles apart during the week, it seems distance between the pair might not always be an issue. With the Strictly tour coming up after Christmas, could this be the chance for the stars to spend more time together?
“I’d love to do it,” Gemma says. “No one’s been asked yet but hopefully I could make it work, if the dates didn’t clash with my radio gig. All the pros say it’s great because it’s the same amount of fun with no pressure.
“Plus we’re all together all of the time, for three weeks. It would be nice to spend time with people away from the serious show.

So while Gemma is remaining tightlipped about the romance rumours, the one thing she has admitted is that her and Gorka get on well…
“I think he’s absolutely brilliant and we are getting to know each other, but for now the main focus is dancing.” Once the show ends? “We’ll see,” she laughs.
