Strictly’s Gemma Atkinson reveals why she’s putting back having children

The actress opened up on starting a family

Strictly Come Dancing star Gemma Atkinson has revealed she is pushing back the age of when she wants to have children.

The actress recently admitted she isn’t looking for a boyfriend and is very happy being single at the moment.

And Gemma, 32, has now revealed she doesn’t plan on having kids until she’s 36 because she’s not “mentally” ready.

The Emmerdale star told OK! Magazine: “I’ve put it back now to 35 or 36! A thousand percent I want kids, but if someone said to me, ‘Right, tomorrow you can meet the love of your life and have a baby and get married,’ I’d say no.”

She added: “I mentally don’t feel in that place. I thought I would be ready for kids at this age, but I’m not.”

Gemma also confessed she’s happy “to be the crazy dog woman with meals for one.”

This comes after the star addressed rumours she’s dating her Strictly co-star Gorka Marquez.

In recent weeks Gemma has found herself linked to Spanish dancer Gorka, 27.

On the show Gemma is partnered with pro dancer Aljaz Skorjanec while Gorka is paired up with singer Alexandra Burke.

Since the rumours emerged Gemma has been quick to shut them down insisting she isn’t interested in dating the hunk and there is nothing going on between them behind the scenes.

Gemma told the mag: “There was an online poll that asked who I should get with and they said Gorka, so it started there.

“I’ve only seen him for the launch and the live shows. He’s a friend and the only thing we’ve shared is his guacamole recipe.”

The Key 103 radio presenter has been single since splitting from personal trainer boyfriend Olly Foster in 2016, after a two-year relationship.

And in January this year, she made her feelings perfectly clear when it came to constant questions about her love life.

“If one more person reminds me of ‘clocks ticking at your age’ or ‘You should look at settling down soon’ I will flip!” she raged at the time.

“Why do we drill into people that marriage is the main key to success in life?

“And not your inner happiness or drive to smash your career goals or work on yourself and only settle down and have a family and a partner when you feel ready too and not just because you’ve hit 30?

“Can we break the mould please and do what makes us happy and not what we feel pressured into by society?”
