Strictly’s Gemma Atkinson responds to ‘foolish and ignorant’ accusation

Taking no prisoners on Instagram!

| Updated:

Gemma Atkinson is as well known for her super-strong physique as she is for her dance moves.

The dance moves, let’s not forget, that propelled her to the final of last year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

But the former Hollyoaks actress had to fight back against an online commenter on a recent Instagram snap.

Gemma frequently shares images and videos of her indulging in her passion, working out in the gym.

And a recent post drew a response from her after a fan made an extremely unnecessary comment.

Gemma had reposted an image from Up Fitness, showing her beaming with pleasure while revealing washboard abs.

Amid a shower of praise, one commenter said: “That’s not a good look for a young lady… keep healthy but lose the muscle gain.”

Unsurprisingly, this comment went down like a lead balloon with Gemma, who blasted back: “If you have a daughter and she wanted to be an athlete when she grows up like Jessica Ennis would you tell her no because it’s not a good look for a woman?”

Another person then alleged: “This look is manly tends to happen when messing with steroids.”

And this seemed to really rile the Emmerdale actress, who hit back by saying: “Steroids? [cry laughing emoji] I’ve been training and eating right for almost 5 years.

“Don’t be so foolish and ignorant. I take that accusation as a compliment really, because it’s what some people tend to throw about to others who graft more and have more dedication to looking after themselves than they do.

“Maybe try and focus on you and your body more, might cheer you up.”

Gemma’s fans were quick to praise the star for setting her critics straight.

One wrote: “I can’t believe that in 2018 there are still people out there with this mindset! If it’s not a good look for a young lady then how come she looks so good?”

Another said: “Absolutely beautiful. Not just a role model to women but to men too, look at what hard work can do.”
