Stacey Solomon bares all in brave new selfie

She's an exceptional role model for young women

| Updated:

She’s no stranger to courting controversy, and her honesty and relatibility is what we love most about Loose Woman Stacey Solomon.

And now she’s challenged the celebrity stereotype once again by posting a selfie of herself wearing no make-up, and showing off her spots and the scars she’s gained from struggling with acne in her 20s.

“The no make-up selfie no one is showing you! I clearly have lash extensions on, I’m not actual Bambi. But I have no make-up at all and I’m not in front of a light so bright it’s like actual foundation,” she wrote.

Explaining why she decided to speak openly about her battle with acne in her latest column for Fabulous mag, Stacey, 28, added: “In this picture I feel beautiful and the spots and scars don’t and WILL NOT take that away from me. You don’t have to be blemish free to be beautiful.

“And anyone worried about going natural because of their skin, don’t, own it! It IS pretty, and more importantly, it’s you! Just because someone says spots look bad, doesn’t mean they’re right. #perfectlyimperfect.”

Fans were quick to praise The X Factor star’s honesty.

“I love reading everything you post Stacey. You are exactly what the TV and social media world need…reality!,” wrote one supporter.

Another added: “I’m in my 30s and still get terrible skin. Seeing this makes me feel a bit more normal.”

Her post  gained over 10,000 likes in less than an hour.

But even Stacey struggles with insecurity sometimes, and admitted she was terrified of taking her make up off in front of boyfriend Joe Swash when they first started dating.

“I couldn’t bear the thought of him seeing all of my spots and damaged skin. So I got up at 3am every morning and put my foundation on in the sweltering heat before going to the (I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here) camp,” she revealed.

“My skin could not breathe. I had two choices. Ditch the foundation and see Joe, or keep the foundation and ditch Joe. I obviously took 9the plunge and stopped covering my spots.

“He didn’t think I looked any different. My spots helped me realise that Joe loves more about me than my appearance. He loves me for who I am. So corny, I know, but it’s true.”

And this isn’t the first time Stacey has posted images that challenge traditional beauty standards.

In February, the mum-of-two had us in hysterics when she posted a video of herself washing her wig in the bath, as she admitted to feeling ‘totally freaked out’ after placing it on her knee, making it look like a face.
