As he marks eight weeks since her death, he once again shared his feelings on twitter, posting a photo of the two embracing.

“Eight weeks ago I lost the love of my life,” he said. “Gemma was everything – my soul mate, my rock, the wind beneath my wings and a beautiful mum.

“The pain of life without her is at times too much to bear but out of this heartbreak the light will shine again. Life is so precious.

“God Bless.”

Gemma was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia – a form of blood cancer – and despite started treatment, she died just days later.

Simon has been vocal about the cancers of the blood in recent weeks, raising awareness of the need for better education.

Gemma visited the GP several times in the lead up to her diagnosis and was sent home – until finally the right tests revealed what was really wrong with her.

Simon has been sharing tweets from Bloodwise UK in an attempt to bring more knowledge about the disease.

“Three times my wife Gemma went to the doctor in six days and three times she was sent home and told to rest,” he tweeted. “Four days after her final visit to her GP she was dead. We have to help and train our GP’s and to detect #bloodcancer earlier. @bloodwise_uk is doing this. #hiddencancer”
