Simon Cowell reveals he has no plans to marry girlfriend but he “wouldn’t say no” to more kids

He adores being a dad

| Updated:

Music mogul Simon Cowell revealed exclusively to The Sun’s columnist Dan Wootton that he has no plans for marriage but “wouldn’t say no” to becoming a father again.

The 57-year-old father-of-one said that his three-year-old son Eric wasn’t planned but that he wouldn’t rule out having more children with girlfriend Lauren Silverman.

He confessed to Dan: “Look, I wouldn’t say no, but I had no idea (with Eric) . . . it wasn’t planned.”

But just because little Eric wasn’t planned doesn’t mean he didn’t fully embrace being a father.

Simon revealed he is a doting dad who adores his son and that having a child has changed him. He said: “I think if I’d have sat here four years ago and said to you, ‘Dan, I’m going to be a dad’ it would have been like, ‘Yeah right’.

“And even if I’d have said yes, I would have said at the time I’m not sure I’ll be a great dad because I just don’t know what to do.

“Then the most amazing thing happens.

“That after about a year and a half you create this connection and it’s very difficult to describe. You always think the biggest love you’ll ever have is for your family and for your parents.”

He continued to gush about parenthood: “You don’t understand what it is like to be a mum or a dad until you have a son or a daughter.

“It is beyond anything I have ever experienced. It is quite incredible. It does make you, I think, a happier person.”

The Sun columnist then asked the question that everyone has been wondering, will he every marry? Simon replied: “Listen Dan, I think with anything in life just let things happen rather than plan.

“I’m saying that all the good things that have ever happened in my life I’ve never, ever planned.

“I genuinely mean that. From when I left school at 16 I didn’t know what I was going to do, I just promised myself I will not be bored when I’m older.

“I’m not going to join a golf club and I’m not going to have horrible dinner parties. And I’ve kind of succeeded on those.

“And like I said about Eric, I hadn’t planned to be a dad but I wouldn’t change anything. That’s it, that’s a good swerve.” A good swerve indeed!

Although he’s now a millionaire, Simon struggled to find a career he was happy with as he grew up. He says he is much happier now thanks to his girlfriend and son. He said: “Success is great, ratings, whatever whatever whatever . . .

“But I always compare myself to what I felt like on a Monday morning when I was at school when I woke up thinking, ‘Please God it’s not Monday, Christ it’s Monday’.

“I have been in a couple of situations where I thought, ‘I’m hating this’.

“So I changed certain things in my life and now, yeah, touch wood, I do feel happier than I’ve been in years. Both Eric and Lauren are a big part of that.”

Lauren, who looks stunning at 40 years old, has been with Simon since 2013 and Eric was born a year later.
