Simon Cowell is working on a VERY interesting new TV show

It's, er, totally out of his comfort zone...

Simon Cowell is indisputably the reigning king when it comes to talent shows.

No, you can’t argue that. It’s a fact.

He brought the world The X Factor and the behemoth Got Talent franchise, created dozens, upon dozens of new stars (and a fair few flops…) and made gazillions doing so.

But he’s now decided to stretch his considerable talents in a new direction (no pun intended) and has begun work on his very first scripted TV series.

Pretty big, right?

However, before you start thinking Si will be showing us a completely different side to himself and unleashing some political drama or fantasy epic on the world, let us explain the plot of this new series…

It’s all about a middle-aged music mogul who works at a record label.

Sound familiar? Nope? Rings no bells?

To be fair to Simon, while the show centres on a middle-aged music mogul, that’s where the similarities end.

According to Variety, this music mogul is a hard-partier on the periphery of the industry who is brought back to guide a young newbie.

Simon, on the other hand, is a doting dad who prefers luxury holidays in Barbados with his family than wild nights in hip clubs.

He even told Daily Mail a few years ago: “The reality is I could have become a monster. I remember being in my 20s and seeing guys in nightclubs in their 60s in ridiculous suits and thinking, ‘God, I hope that won’t be me’.”

And it’s fair to say Simon’s very much the CENTRE of the industry, rather than being on the periphery!

The comedy series, which is called ‘A&R’, will follow this old industry titan as he’s employed by a totally hip, cool, youth-orientated record label to impart his wisdom.

Naturally we imagine that means plenty of funny clashes between old and new, stale and fresh etc. etc.

Sadly, anyone hoping to see Si flexing his acting chops may be disappointed, as the trade mag lists him as an executive producer on the series, which was pitched by his Syco company.

We’ll still be tuning in!

Meanwhile, Simon’s as busy as always these days, with X Factor’s live shows just around the corner.

First though, he needs to choose which acts are going through in his category…

According to reports, he’s been landed with the groups this year and has enlisted the aid of his old pal and former X Factor judge Cheryl in helping him pick who goes to live shows.

They’ve reportedly jetted to the South of France to film judges’ houses at a luxurious £10 million mansion with a swimming pool and TWO helicopter pads.

Well, one just isn’t enough, is it?
