Simon Cowell addresses rumours that Cheryl is set to come back to X Factor

The boss has spoken!

Last week everybody was giddy with excitement when it emerged that Cheryl Tweedy could be headed back to the X Factor.

It had been reported that Simon Cowell was forking out a whopping £500,000 for her to appear at the judges houses section of the show.

The Daily Star even quoted a source as saying: “Simon wants to pull out all the stops for this year’s show and bagging Cheryl’s long-awaited return to telly would be one of his top wishes.”

The source also claimed that Simon would be open to Liam Payne joining her, with the loved-up pair almost certain to get good ratings.

“It would be telly gold,” they said.

“Nothing’s decided yet, but bosses are very fond of Cheryl and when she’s ready to do something, of course we’d be interested.”

Well, it looks like that source of theirs isn’t as reliable as they thought, as Simon Cowell has declared that the suggestion is a load of “bull”.

Speaking to the Mirror, the X Factor boss said the story had not truth to it and added that he hadn’t seen or spoken to her in six months.

He added: “I haven’t spoken to her in six months.”

It’s been a quiet few months for Cheryl, who has hidden herself away from he public eye.

Aside from announcing the birth of her baby, little has been heard from he Geordie singer, aside form the odd Instagram post.

Even though Simon is adamant that Cheryl isn’t coming back to the show, fans had been gleeful that it could be a possibility.

After all, when she was on the show, she was not only popular but also mentored two winners –  Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry.

Even hard-to-please Simon rated her and gushed that she was “one of the best.”

But could there still be a chance of Simon reconsidering and inviting Cheryl back on the show in some capacity?

A spokesperson for the show has said that there were still no firm plans about who would be appearing in the later stages of the show.

“No decisions have been made as yet with regards to the mentors for Judges’ Houses,” they said.

“This report is merely very premature speculation”.
