Sharon Osbourne speaks out on “stupid” foul-mouthed attack on Simon Cowell

She also revealed Simon's reaction to her comments

Sharon Osbourne has called her foul-mouthed attack on Simon Cowell and The X Factor “stupid” and insisted it wasn’t meant to be “vicious”.

Last month, Sharon raised eyebrows during an interview on US radio show The Howard Stern Show, when she claimed Simon would do anything to get his “fat face” on television, before claiming she wanted to “drown” him and branded the show a “[expletive] karaoke.”

Now, Sharon has admitted she didn’t mean what she said, adding that she was “just being a precocious child”.

Speaking about the radio chat to The Sun, Sharon said she had received a call from one of the senior team at The X Factor two weeks after her explosive radio chat.

They told her they were “very upset” about her comments and eight days later, they told they “don’t think it’s going to work” having her on the show as an additional judge.

Defending her comments on the radio show, Sharon continued: “I’m not blaming anybody. I joined in and had a good old laugh at other people’s expense, but it wasn’t meant to be vicious, it was just stupid.

“Did I mean it all literally? No. Am I going to tie a brick around Simon’s neck? I don’t think so! Are the contestants little [expletive]? Of course not. I was just being a precocious child.”

She added: “You can’t take it literally. I was just messing around, not wanting to hurt anyone.”

Revealing the show’s boss Simon’s reaction to her interview, Sharon said he told her he doesn’t care because “it’s all stupid”.

Sharon recently announced that she’s decided to pull out of The X Factor this year as a judge for the live shows.

She said in a statement: “After watching the new season #XFactor unfold, I’ve seen the new judges finding their rhythm and are doing brilliantly.

“Simon was so gracious to find me a spot on the live shows but at this point I really don’t think I’m needed and I would honestly feel odd coming in at this point. So I have decided to pass on the series this year.”

She added: “I wish the show continued success and as much as I love to get my face on TV you will have to do without me this season. Loves ya, Mrs. O.”

A spokesperson for ITV backed Sharon’s comments, saying in a statement: “The X Factor can confirm Sharon Osbourne has decided not to return to this year’s show.

“Sharon will always be a big part of The X Factor family and we wish her all the best for the future.”
